The first round of the season was a big learning curve. We went into the weekend unsure of how our result would end up due to having no setup figured out, data or time on the bike. We got to the track and prepared for the weekend, working on the bike constantly trying to get it setup. Friday came and I headed out for practice 1, but didn’t learn much due to us having the wrong gearing on the bike. Practice 2 we got the right gearing on the bike and went out and got some solid practice in, turning faster lap times each lap. Qualifying came, and I got down to p5 to end out qualifying.
Race 1—— Sitting on the second row, I came into the race with one focus; stay with the front row. The lights went out, and due to never doing a start on the bike before i didn’t get the greatest launch and got passed a few times before turn 1. I quickly made back the positions and was sitting p7. The leaders slowly started pulling away and me and two other riders stayed in a pack, battling the whole race. I was sitting p7 on the last lap and got a good draft on the back straightaway and managed to get one more position before the finish ending race one in p6.
Race 2—— Having experienced a race already, I went into race 2 with less nerves and was ready to battle. I got a much better start this time, and was holding close to the lead group at the start. As the race went on, the leaders started to slowly pull away. 2 other riders and I settled in a group and had one of the best battles i’ve ever had, constantly changing positions. I ended race 2 also in p6.
I had a very positive weekend at COTA, and i’m ready to put this Phison-Pascari/Rocksolid Racing bike further up.
